Starke United does not
have a pre-determined list of recipient agencies. Instead, we focus
on the most urgent needs of the county as dictated to us through
our Needs Assessment Surveys.
Starke United is happy
to honor pledges to specific tax-exempt organizations.
As a general rule, Starke
United does not direct funds to political causes or to organizations
outside of the "mainstream" of charitable activities.

Starke United spotlight shines today on the Community Services of
Starke County (CSSC). Pledges to Starke United allowed us to fund
CSSC to further various projects. Director Joan Haugh tells

a new wheelchair lift vehicle in the past with help from matching
funds provided by Starke United's undesignated funds. Starke United

Scout program is an informal education program designed to help
girls put into practice the fundamental principles of the Girl Scout

are available for girls and adults for activities, training, supplies,

$5.00 Family Membership fee or $2.00 Individual Membership fee but
not required to receive services.

General Purpose:
To provide scholarships to county high school seniors whose applications
are selected.
Types of Services:
Services Provided:
- In 2001, over $58,000 was given to local high school seniors.
- Scholarships are also available to nursing students who have
completed one year of nurses training
- A scholarship from the Elsie Anderson Nursing Scholarship Memorial
(in 2001, $1800 was awarded).

- Pregnancy tests are available free of charge
- Nutritional counseling available
- Breastfeeding support group available
- Immunizations are given by the Health Department on Monday evenings

General Purpose:
The Starke County Youth Club, Inc. exists to provide behavior guidance
and to promote the health, social, educational, vocational, and
character developments of boys and girls.
Types of Services:
- Education
- After-School Programming
Services Provided:
After-school programs to suit the needs of the community that fall
into one of the following categories:
- Education opportunities to build on skills learned during school
hours and to expand the joy of learning
- Recreation activities like basketball, swimming, soccer and
dance
- Special events such as field trips, community service projects,
talent shows, and field days
- Encrichment classes in which members can learn about cooking,
arts and crafts, music, theatre, and language
Eligibility Requirements:
All boys and girls in kindergarten through twelfth grade are eligible
for membership.
Fees:
A $10.00 per year registration fee per child is assessed for the
after-school program. Scholarships are available for families that
cannot affored this fee.

them build a home for their families.

- Provide home ownership by allowing participants to secure a
loan through Starke/Pulaski Habitat for Humanity.
Eligibility Requirements:
Ability to pay, willingness to partner (with 250 hours of "sweat
equity"), and show a demonstrated need for housing.
Fees:
No fee for application.
