When Danny was only a few months old his mother and doctor began to realize his congestion, slow weight gain, and other symptoms weren’t quite normal. By the time he was a year old he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Despite this disease and the complications associated with it, Danny continued to do well throughout his school years. By the end of High School he had earned college tuition funds through the 21st Century Scholars program, but neither the cost of housing nor transportation back and forth to school was included. So with the help of a Love INC donor Danny received a 1986 Ford 150, which he proclaims as being the exact year of truck he had always wanted. He then was able to register for college and despite a three-week hospital stay mid term; he completed a semester of classes. Other Love INC donors provided six months insurance on the truck and gas cards to get him started to school. Some repairs and maintenance was needed to get the truck road ready so the SCILL Center and Shannon Auto and Truck provided the labor. Starke United Grant funds were used to cover the cost of parts.
Danny has a cough associated with the Cystic Fibrosis, which prevents him from working in food-oriented businesses where most part time jobs are available for young people. So to earn gas and future insurance money Danny cuts and splits firewood does yard work, and other odd jobs as he can find them. He looks forward to a future in Residential Construction Management. Danny was one of two students last year to receive a vehicle including insurance and gas through Love INC and supplemental Starke United Grant Funds.
