Starke United & You….Doing What Matters! Saving Lives!!! Through your financial support, Starke United helps to support a wide variety of organizations throughout Starke County such as Healthy Families ABC Car Seat program. Crystal Haschel stopped by to have her child's car seat checked at a child restraint system inspection event in June 2005. The seat was improperly installed and also needed to be replaced. A new car seat - just right for Kali - was installed. With her second child on the way - Crystal was instructed in the proper method of installing two car seats in her mini van. In December, 2005 the unthinkable happened. Crystal, with Lana and Kali safely secured in their car seats, was hit head on when a van crossed the center line of US35. Crystal received many serious injuries. Lana and Kali survived the crash with only minor injuries. The Haschel family credits Healthy Family's ABC Car Seat Program and Starke United for saving the lives of two precious little girls! |

| Starke United & You....Doing What Matters! Working together - we WILL - make a positive lasting difference in Starke County! While
we do not have a predefined list of recipient agencies, we work
with over seventy organizations in and around Starke County to provide
relief to citizens in need. We focus on the most urgent needs of
the county, as defined by our Needs Assessment Surveys. These surveys
help us to determine which organizations will best serve the needs
of Starke County during the distribution of undesignated funds.

Designated funds are specified by a donor to be provided to a certain nonprofit organization that benefits Starke County. Undesignated funds are pledged without a certain organization specified. These funds are pooled together and, during the annual campaign, surveys are distributed to donors for completion that are then used to determine what the residents of Starke County view to be the areas of greatest need (i.e., alcohol/drug abuse, child abuse, aid for senior citizens, programs for youth, etc). We then open it up to nonprofit organizations in the county that work to fulfill these needs to apply for funds for certain projects that work to solve the identified areas of need. Our Deployment committee meets and reviews the applications, and distributes the undesignated money to the organizations that they feel most fits the identified areas. We have even helped to fund some brand new programs, even the starting costs for a brand new organization (i.e., Healthy Families)! |

| Don't Retire from Giving! It's a fact that fifty years ago, life was a lot less complicated and much more affordable. Back then, less seniors made up the population and families typically took care of their elders. Today, only social security and pension plans take care of many senior folk; many more rely on the services provided by Starke United such as Homebound Meals, Community Services of Starke County, and many more. |

| Although you may not be members of the fulltime work force any longer and your incomes have decreased, our community still needs your support. Starke United is an excellent choice for your charitable giving because we provide funding for so many essential programs throughout the community. Funds from Starke United help better than lives of everyone; families, children, youth, adults, and senior citizens alike. So, please, don't retire from giving. Any amount of giving helps those in need through the invaluable programs of Starke United. | |||||||||
| As a general rule, Starke United does not direct funds to political causes or to organizations outside of the "mainstream" of charitable activities. | |||||||||
