What is Starke United?

Starke United is people you know! Over sixty volunteers and over seventy organizations countywide, working to better the community through positive volunteer efforts.

We serve the people you care for and love each and every day - family, friends, and neighbors throughout Starke County. We work with a variety of area agencies and programs to deliver the kind of support our citizens need, in part by regularly co-sponsoring partnership meetings to help facilitate cooperation, communication, and training between community service agencies. One of our key focuses is the administration of grant programs, helping to garner the financial support for key community services and programs. Further, through our annual community Needs Assessment Surveys, we strive to hear what our community wants and needs, and help drive determination and prioritization for community support. And to be able to do all this, Starke United raises its own funds through a variety of grants, private and corporate donations, and periodic fund-raising efforts.

Starke United was formed in 1995 by a group of people who saw a need in Starke County for an organization that would help the other nonprofit organizations in the county. Starke United conducts an annual fund-raising campaign in the fall to raise funds for the other nonprofit organizations (labeled designated funds). But, more importantly, Starke United works with these organizations to identify areas of need in the county and then provide some of the funds raised in the campaign to start these new programs that work to correct the need (labeled undesignated funds).

Starke United is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and has 1 part-time employee.
